Family Action Day 2017
Family Friendly Creative Afternoon with
Amnesty International UK | Sunday 26 November
GenGive and Amnesty International UK came together to bring you a live, experiential event, to engage families and children in the most important human rights issues of our time!
Every year Amnesty International runs Write for Rights, the largest grassroots campaign in the world. The campaign calls upon people across the globe to come together and stand in solidarity with others currently suffering injustice - and to publicly hold the authories to account who could change the situation for any one of these individuals.
On Sunday 26th November, GenGive's FREE Family Action Day, gave a group of local families the chance to get creative, showing their support for people suffering human rights abuses. We had arts and crafts stations available with Amnesty campaigners on hand to talk through each of the cases.
Here's a taste of some of the things we got up to:
Wrote messages of support on hand decorated paper leaves to Clovis Razahimalala who is an environmental activist in Madagascar. The leaves were then hung from our Human Rights Tree.
Created a huge banner in support of immigration detainees in the UK including birds of peace created by attendees.
Designed paper houses which were then stuck onto our neighbourhood backdrop in support of Ni Yulan, a housing rights activist from China.
